Default Tranny, primary or what?

Hi all, despite the fact that I went around all threads on the forums, I didnt found solutions to my problem . HD Softail 1999 sometimes after heating at 60 mph speed starts to twitch, I hear weird sounds from the primary and bike is slowing down. The chain is ok, all fluids are new, sparks too, no filings in oil, I also changed vacuum membrane in carb. I am going again to inspect compensator but on last inspection it looks like new. Gas consumption is 12 litres on 100 miles / 31.5 mile per 1 gallon. Thank you for your help.

Describe the "twitch" at 60mph. Do you mean the clutch is slipping?

Hello,
Problem is that I dont know where to start to investigate my problem. Something in engine, transmission or primary area make a gritted noise, bike slow down significantly. As I wrote there are no any metal fillings in oils. I changed yesterday transmission fluid, SE sparks to stock, put little bit more oil to primary - totally is now approx 1 liter and will ride to test.
Thank you Mark.

Make sure both the compensator and the clutch are tight. The loss of speed would lead be to believe it is something motor related. The drivetrain just transfers power to the rear wheel. Are there any other symptoms that go along with the noise? What gear are you in when this happens?

Changing the primary chain will accomplish nothing.

It sounds like something is slipping, it is either the clutch, the compensator or...

The front belt pulley has come loose on the transmission.

Compensator and clutch are tight, today I will look on inner primary bearing and front belt pulley if there is any loose or damage.
Thank you.
