Default primary drive questions

I am going to replace my compensatory sprocket and clutch assy and was looking for info on how the performance is effected by going with a larger sprocket. Likes dislikes. I have heard this is possible.

By going larger you will lower the rpm's at cruising speeds but also lose some torque coming out of the whole. Each tooth you go up up will be a 3% reduction in rpm's.

It seems low enough to add another tooth without ******* too much. Could I get your opinion? Have you done this before, and if so is there a noticeable change?
Thanks for the reply.

Is your ride bone stock? if so you don't want to go to a larger sprocket. What are you trying to achieve?

Yes it is stock, but if/when I need to do engine work I would like to build it up a bit and thought that changing the sprocket size now would be the way to go. It seems to be geared pretty low, would like a little more speed before having to shift and higher speed with lower rpms while cruising the interstate.

Yes it is stock, I am having to replace the compensator sprocket and clutch assy now and thought this might be the thing to do. If/when I have to do engine work I would like to beef it up a bit. Bigger front sprocket is why the twinkies have so many issues with wiping out compensators and the motors keep getting bigger, trying to make up for all the low end torque loss.

Default Serious HI rpm woes...

I got tired of the 70mph-3000 rpm zone but didn't want to sacrafice acceleration and torque at low end so I made a few changes. For performance purposes I replace the primary with a belt drive from BDL (i believe its a 45 front and 68 rear) which did change the ratio a bit but also took a lot of weight off the crank allowing torque an hp to be transferred to the rear wheel with less loss. I then changed my rear sprocket from 65 to 70 again changing the final ratio to a 3.31:1 but by installing a 6 speed I was able to achieve a 70 mph-2450 rpm zone. I now have a very quick and comfortable ride for all types of riding. Worth the change.
