updating FXR4 clutch
My wife and I have 2 FXR4 bikes. She also has a 2010 FLSTC. She likes the feel of the clutch on the 2010, but has problems with the stiffer FXR clutch. The FXR4 has the same primay cover as the newer bikes, so I am looking into putting the later style clutch in her bike. I already have the modified ramp and ***** that makes it easier. The only issue with that setup is keeping the adjustment "just right" Wondering if the newer style clutch will fit?

The issue you refer to, of keeping the adjustment 'just right', is a feature of your clutch, when used with one of the modified ramp devices. When stock there is just enough adjustment available in the clutch mechanism, however what those devices do is take away some of that range of adjustment, hence it becomes critical. I've been through much the same experience! Your softail has a different transmission and clutch and I doubt if the clutch will retrofit.
There are other things you can consider consider. I changed my clutch cable for a Diamondback, which so improved my clutch action I actually removed my modified ramp device! I got adjustment back and a lighter smoother clutch into the bargain! So that is one suggestion.
Other possibilities to consider are replacing the stock clutch plates with a kevlar Barnett +1 set, which are reputed to improve action. A yet further upgrade is an AIM VPC, which is a centrifugal add-in. It uses a lighter clutch spring, which is great in traffic and at slower speeds, but as speed increases the centrifugal feature increases spring pressure, to deal with power at the higher end of the rev-range.
Hope that helps a little!
