Default Shifting problems

I recently switched from 3" extended forward controls back to stock. I researched and cut my extended linkage to stock specs of a stock one and now it doesnt downshift very well. There is a slight angle from where it hooks to the tranny and to the shifter. I also drilled a hole to make it level and it still doesnt downshift like it should. Its on my 92 softail
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the rod might be to long and might be bottoming out prematurely.

Would the slight angle be a problem too?

The lever on the trans should be at about 11:30-11:45.Shift while watching it and make sure it does not contact the inner primary. Also make sure the linkage is parallel to the motor cycle and not binding on either end. After all that is checked grab your factory service manual and start reading up on shifter pawl adjustment.

The Heim joint should take up any angle. Should run parallel to the primary. Inside of toe shifter arm outside of trans arm
