I have a 2010 Road King my problem is that my transmission will jump out of third gear some times while up shifting, But it holds fine while down shifting. Any ideas.?

Well load is different on internals like gears/syncro's etc when accell vs down shifitng where compression from motor is slowing bike down which is why it will pop out of gear on accell but not pop out of gear when downshift into 3rd gear & let off the throttle.

It's possibly an issue with internal linklage but more likely a syncro or gear problem causing trans to pop out of 3rd when accell but not on decell which will require disassembly or trans.

Scott, I'm no transmission expert but Harleys don't have synchronizers.
Worn dogs, bent or out of adgusted shift fork.

 

There are no synchronizers in a cruise drive transmission. Third gear is engaged by a fork and a dog ring which as female pockets. So either the fork is bent or it is a problem with the dog teeth. Either the male teeth on the third gear are worn and rounded or the female dog pockets on the dog ring are worn.

Tought this old dog something new,no syncros in the trans/LOL

Still got to be an issue with 3rd gear itself and or engagement mechanism /dog for 3rd gear.

Either way looks like he's in for some trans work.
