Default Sealant on Primary Gasket?

I'm getting ready to replace the compensator and rotor on my 09 RK with the new SE style. All the parts have arrived but I noticed that I couldn't find anything that indicated whether I needed to use a gasket sealant when I install the new gasket on the primary cover. Do you use it or not? Thanks.

If both surfaces are cleaned properly and the gasket mounted and installed properly, no you don't need to use any sealer. Take your time and make sure both sides of the primary are 100% CLEAN.

I've re-used my factory installed primary gasket many many many times. Oh I have a new one handy just in case but it's still holding, nary a drop. I figure as long as I have the new gasket at the ready, the old one will never give up, lol

That's good to know. If the original one is still in great condition when I remove it, I'll save the new one too.

Unless it has been butchered up by overzealous cleaning or serious over tightening, don't use any gasket sealer.
Do pay close attention to the correct torque specs though and don't fall prey to the common mistake of thinking that "tighter is better" because that's the most common reason that gaskets leak.

If your gasket has a raised Orange bread all around it, it's a reusable gasket. Providing its in good shape and no sealant necessary...

Old thread, but many people reuse that gasket. So if you goop is up, might make harder to reuse. And stating the obvious you don't need to

The service manual will tell you when to use certain compounds, if it doesn`t specifically call out something, it is not required.

I do not use sealant on a new Primary Cover gasket.
