Question 04 RG Max Tooth Drop Stock Belt

What's the max tooth drop allowed on an 04 bagger w/ the cam style rear axle adjuster to still keep the stock belt and not have to open the inner/outer primaries?

From the stock 70t pulley the aim is to install a 68t. I DONT want to open the primaries if I absolutely don't have to.

Some say 68t sportster pulley fits, but what year is 1-1/8" wide. Second option is to fit a 68t international dyna pulley that is 1-1/8"....if that bolts up to te rear wheel.

Usually you can only drop one tooth and keep the stock belt.

What Mark says is true, generally speaking. However, I know a couple of guys that got lucky and have dropped two teeth and were still able to adjust the belt to proper tension but the odds are against you being able to do that.

Actually, the primary is the least of your problems if a belt change is necessary; a bit messy but not difficult and will add about an extra hour to the job. The swing arm has to come off or at least the swing arm shaft removed enough to one side to allow the belt to slip between the swing arm and the frame; adds another hour to the job.

The International Dyna pulley should bolt up without problems, the hub hole pattern etc are unchanged. I have a Deuce rear wheel in my Glide, with a 1 1/8" pulley - they were the least of the challenge!

Ok thanks guys. Yah I have heard only one tooth drop....o know new bikes allow 2 though.

I compared my stock pulley w/ the 04 and all bolts, but offset is bigger, which can be machined off from a friend I know.

I will let him know this info and see which way he wants to go about regearing.
