Default 2014 Deluxe ? Drive Train, Help Me out Please

Bought this scoot 1400 miles on it, drive train wasn't right from day one. Clutch cable had no adjustment at the hand grip, had all kinds of slop and noise. Adjusted the cable and most went away but I'm still concerned. Asked HD to take a look see when I had the cam installed, their reply was it was all good.

Here's the nitty gritty: feels like primary chain slap from 5th to 6th, slight hesitation grabbing 6th. Another day I missed a gear downshifting at low speed thinking I was in 2nd but was in fourth at low RPM and the tranny sound/felt like it's going to blow out the housing. I was like whoa, that's not right.

Let me revise my question, am I looking forward to rebuilding the tranny with better components? I've read there seems to be ongoing problems with HD's 6 speed trannies.

Heh Mark, thanx for the post. I just might bite the bullet and go that route once this warranty thing is up. I did look at the Baker site see what they offered beforehand but I missed that one.

Did you loosen the cable, then pull the derby cover, then adjust the clutch release rod, then adjust the cable? You original post only references the cable, and that is not a complete adjustment.

Good point, HD was supposed to pull the primary and adjust it when they did the cam. After reading your post I called and inquired, their response was it was dynoed and test rode and no one felt it needed adjusted....grrrrrrr

I will be adjusting it meself now. Wouldn't that be something if all it needed was adjusted.

First HD I've owned still under warranty. I've read dealer horror stories but never paid much attention to them since I do most everything myself. A wake up call is what it is, thnx for bringing that up.

Make sure it is completely cold when you adjust it.

Called the service manage up spoke with him in regards to my clutch pack adjustment and why the tech didn't pop the derby and do it. To my surprise he said bring it in and he'd take care of it. Whoa.

Seems to be what it was, needed adjustment. I only got to put 20 miles on it, I'll know if it cleaned up the tranny noises next road trip.
HD didn't charge me anything for it, that was a big plus dealing with them. kudos to HD of Tampa. They even cleaned it up after yesterdays getting caught in the rain. Above and beyond.

Finally got to put a couple hundred miles on it today and my thoughts. After the 254E cam, the friggin clutch pack dialed in correctly I must say I cannot complain about the six speed any longer. I will say, I am still wondering why in the world HD went to the noisy self adjusting primary, I still do not like it. I imagine I'll eventually deal with that down the road.

Glad it was just a basic adjustment. Enjoy the bike!
