Default Inner Primary Leaking, need advise

Ok I just got this 2007 Dyna last weekend and it wasn't leaking (that I could tell) when I got it. Took it home, made the following changes:

Drained oil in Primary, Trans and Crankcase. added new O-rings to the plugs.

Primary - Amsoil 20-50 MC Oil
Trans 3/4 Amsoil Severe Gear 75-140 / 1/4 Amsoil 20/50 (helps thin out the 75-140
Crankcase - Amsoil 20-50 MC Oil

Noticed Oil was leaking out after driving it ALOT. Thought it was either the primary or the Inner primary.

Changed out Derby cover gasket and outer primary gasket, still leaking, but not near as bad. 7-8 drops after parking it first time, 5 drops after parking it 2nd time and 2 drops after taking it out for the last time.

It seams to be leaking from the inner primary and running down to 2 bottom bolts to make it look like it's leaking from the outer primary. is it the trans or the crank that's leaking? I'm guessing it would be the trans.

could it be that if the trans is filled up too much, it would cause it to leak?

ANY leak bothers me, but is this something I should just live with or is it worth taking it to the shop to get fixed?

Sorry just am freaking out, cause my 2005 Electra glide never leaks a drop and now this newer bike has already done pissed me off!!!

Thanks,

Do a good degreasing & check over. Good luck. If you didn't see any leaks when you got the bike, I would assume it's from some service work you have done. Good luck. When you find the problem, let's know what caused it.

Smell the oil coming out. Tranny-gear oil stinks.

Seriously?
You are blending your own formula of gear lube, by mixing gear lube with motor oil?
Absurd.

Back to your leak, Make sure the transmission and primary are not overfilled, and check the transmission vent hose to be sure it is not kinked or obstructed.

well some use 20/50 MC oil and others use 75/90 Severe Gear lube, some use 75/140.

They only had 75/140 Severe Gear lube locally. I thought it was a little thick for my liking, I also thought the 20/50 was a little "too" thin. If they are both ok to use, why would it hurt to mix them?

I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, I genuinely am curious as if this is OK or not.

When it comes to synthetics I might use it in my motor but that's it (ok probably not even there). Wouldn't even think of it in the primary or trans. That **** tends to find leaks................

No, it is not ok. Gear lube and motor oil are different types of lubes, with completely different chemical additive packages.

Don`t get the idea that because two different chemicals can be used to do a job, that the chemicals can be mixed.

75/90 ore 75/140 gear lube, either will work fine in your transmission.

20w50 motor oil will also do the job (it has been lubing transmissions on metric motorcycles for many decades without issue).

Not sure if it's the same on your '07 as my '09, but you should also check the o-ring on the starter shaft that fits into the inner primary.

Just the other day I noticed oil was leaking under the bike and I've *never* had that happen before on this bike. Saw oil under the starter on top of the tranny but for the life of me couldn't figure out where the heck it was comiing from. Then yesterday when I got back, I really got in there with a flashlight and apparently it seems the o-ring on my starter isn't working anymore. The bolts are both nice and at torque, so I figured the o-ring just wore out. $10 with S&H from J&PCycle and I'll have it replaced in less than 15 minutes when it gets here (remove battery, battery box, unplug a couple things from starter, pull 2 bolts, pull starter, remove old o-ring, install new, put small amount of oil on the new ring, put it all back together).

what would be the advantage of using 75/140 in a place that calls for 20w50?What do you think your clutch is gonna say about it?
