Default Clutch not working

1980 Low Rider

OK, go to ride (for the first time I might add), squeeze clutch, kick it into first, bike lurches and stalls. Have not released clutch.

There's tension on the lever when I squeeze, follow the cable as far back as I can and it's moving some hard to see lever or something deep in there.

Rather new to this if you can't tell.

Has the bike been sitting for a while? Sounds like stuck clutch plates.

Try getting it into 4th or 5th gear (engine off), and rocking the bike back and forth several times. That might break the plates loose.

That was what my local shop told me. I have another small problem, just got my endorsement and the bike I learned on had regular shifter, my bike has the heel - to thing. I'm not even sure where first is after being told about a false neutral. Anyways shop told me to kick it in gear after revving it up a bit with the front brake held. That didn't seem to work very well, I'll try your suggestion after a break.

Me thinks you should find a parking lot to become familiar with your bike. JMO

Put it in low. Pull in clutch and while on rough concrete, keep bumping it backwards with your butt a dozen times.. If that does not break the disks free, you need to inspect under the clutch derby cover.

From the sound of your post, you don't know which way to move a shift lever to put a motorcycle in 4th or 5th gear. Those stuck clutch plates and constant stalling are a SIGN.

Might be a good time to call a reputable Indy and trailer the bike to his shop.
