Exclamation lost all gears

So, I was returning from a road trip on Monday. 2006 Ultra Classic. As I was getting off the highway I could not down shift. Shifter was loose, hanging downward. Rode as far as I could keeping her going. When I came to a stop, I was able to place into neutral using my hand, at least neutral light came on. Engaged clutch, placed in 1st gear, felt and sounded like going into gear. Released clutch and nothing, would not move. With bike off and what felt like first gear I can move bike freely. Any suggestions/advice?

I suspect that the trans is fine but something in the shifting mechanism has gone awry. You may have to pull the trans top cover to find the problem; get out your service manual.

You lost the shifter paw spring....It's fairly common.

You'll need to get the piece of the old spring out of their before you ride it again, because if the gears pick it up, you'll really have problems.
It's a cheap fix if you do it yourself.

Check to make sure your drive pulley is not stripped out.

This was the suggestion given to me yesterday. "Check arm at transmission.
The splines and arm/lever at transmission must be tight.
Sometimes the allen screw at the lever located on the splined shaft is loose or the lever itself has stripped splines.
The lever is softer than the shaft."

Which I bought and this was my reply,"EXACTLY!! Bought the lever on the way home, $42.00, and when I got home tested it thoroughly. After a few tough shifts, it began to flop. Off and on in 20 minutes....good or better than new. THANKS!!"
