Hi, my final drive pulley is coming apart a bit so I'm looking to replace it. It's a 1996 FXDS, so I think that's a 70 tooth and 1 1/2" wide? Is there a way to convert it to the skinnier later style belts? Will this buy me real estate so I can put on a larger rear tire?

Not sure about a '96 model but I did replace the OEM pulley with the narrow pulley and belt on my '02 FL model and was able to replace my 130 tire with a 150 which is the widest the fender would allow.

 

Which size belt did you go with? This is all new-to-me. I see there are a bunch- 1" and 1.125" seem to be common. Which do I choose?

Also, did you have to swap the front pulley? Or just belt and rear pulley?

I stick with OEM belts and needed a 139T belt to keep OEM final drive ratio; 1.125" belt and pulley is what I used to replace the 1.5" OEM belt and pulley. You need to determine what tooth count you need for your application and look for the HD belt that fits. I have attached a list of the HD belts; you will need the matching pulley to maximize the additional room for tire clearance. No need to change the front pulley; just belt and rear pulley.
