Default Time for new clutch pack? Which do you prefer?

I have a 2005 deuce Screaming Eagle exhaust, intake and super tuner. and the cluch oil smelled burnt and was starting to excessive clutch cable play... I think it's time for a new clutch set/pack , the local dealer recommended Screaming Eagle clutch pack , I have had good experience with Barnett clutches. My question is what do you think is the best replacement ?
Upgrade to Barrnett or follow dealership recommends Screaming Eagle ?

It is the dealer's job to sell Harley / Screamin Eagle parts over any other brand.

Be wary about that burnt smell! It may not be your clutch but your stator on it's way out. What other symptoms do you have that the clutch may be failing? Or the stator for that matter.

As for a replacement clutch pack Next has hit the nail on the head, however I'm happy with my Barnett set, so toss a coin to select between SE and them!

Burnt smell is probably an over heated stator but IMO the OEM clutch is good. When I pulled mine out at 118,000 miles it was like new. I only changed it out because of my increased HP.

+1 on the barnett. I put that in my 2010 at 20K miles, no issue thru 42K. When the cvo needs a new clutch, it will be the barnett.

The overheated stator can make primary drive oil smell ? I really really hope it's not a stator going out.... The last ride before I changed the primary oil and inspected the clutch I was riding on twisty rough roads looking at property and the weather was over 100 and heard primary chain making noise so I know the whole engine was getting pretty warm and lots of shifting and lugging, not a normal ride. After looking at Barrnetts fitment guide I'm not positive it's even going to be a for sure fit after all it a deuce, seems every time I'm told something will fit " no problem man" it's just not right. I think I'm going to listen to the dealers recommendations and go with the SE pack, that way at least I have a local throat to choke if it don't fit ... it needs more parts etc.

Paul, don't buy anything until you've confirmed what is causing the burning smell, otherwise you may end up buying twice - a clutch you don't need plus a stator!

Formula + seems to have the burned smell anytime it's changed. Your clutch may be fine.

Adjust the clutch pack and cable per manual 1st. As the plates wear the pushrod adjuster needs adjusted out to allow the clutch pack to fully seat. Start there with a loose cable then adjust the cable. If it is too late and the plates need replaced, I have had good luck with both Barnett and SE.

Depending on your riding style, the SE performance diaphragm spring 371951-98 can help reduce stock clutch slipping. I currently run the SE extra plate kit 38002-04 which comes with the thicker spring and have never had a slippage problem.
