Chain upgrade from belt
Hey all , never had a chain drive Harley before but it was time to upgrade from the belt. Broke two belts this year. I done see any one making a strong enough 1" belt. So I went to a chain. It's a 530 chain with PBI sprockets.
How much slack should there be new and when broken in?
When the chain is at rest the bottom of the chain has a 1/4" of sag and when i push firmly up on the top as noted in the pics I get 3/4" travel. Is this enough for break in? And what should it be when broke in?
Thanx Bob....
Sorry it comes out upside down my phone camera is screwed up....

Update on the switch to chain
I rode a lot this past weekend, about 300 miles and man it felt great. Haven't been on the road in a good 5 weeks due to repairs and upgrades to the drivetrain.
I gotta be honest and say that all my worries are gone with belt failures. I can't believe how quiet this chain is. Got the kit from Zippers and love it. Trans gear is a 23 and rear sprocket is a 49.
Matched that to my new belt primary drive from Baker making my overall ratio a 3.27. Awesome power transfer and great cruising in 6th gear @70 mph/ 2650 rpm. exactly what I was looking for. I'm finally getting my bike to where I want it....

Chain no.. Front sprocket yes but if you get a well made sprocket you won't have to worry about it. Probably would outlast the stock chain and sprockets that HD uses in the primary. The rear, That's another story but PBI makes good ****.
