Over the weekend I was thinking about this and for the life of me I still can not remember what was wrong. But I did remember the dealership had a hell of a time finding me a replacement part. They did a dealer search, found one in Indiana or some such place, guy then sent the wrong one, did another search and found it and got it sent over. It was over two weeks for them just to score the parts. My dealership parts guy is the best and finding old and obsolete parts.

The good news it was all good after and shifted better than new, literally. My genius is out trying to find Bambi so I can't get a hold of him till probably next week. Good luck.

My 89 FXR had a "mysterious" neutral, on occasion while shifting into 4th I would have to shift again before it would go into gear.

IIRC a lot of bikes had that similar quirk including metrics. It was of no concern to any of us who rode.
