Default 95 Heritage Softail transmission issues

Howdy y'all! I've recently purchased a 95 heritage softail. All seemed well on the test drive other than getting in to 2nd gear took some harder than normal effort. Other gears shifted fine. The following day I went to ride and now it will not go in to 2nd gear, only 1st and nutrual. Also.. I noticed a low whining sound that came amd went. Ive already checked the linkage, clutch adjustments, and primary chain adjustment. Thanks in advance!

I would jack the rear of the bike up and dry shift the bike through the gears. If you still have problems the oil bag is easy to pull to the side on this bike without removing all the oil lines. Pull the trans top cover and examine any issues. May be a bent shift fork, worn gears, shift drum, etc. You will be able to get a good look at things with the cover off and without removing the transmission or primary.

Check the shift lever at the transmission, make certain it is tight on the shaft, they are notorious for coming loose and slipping on the shaft.
