Default Transmission issue and traveling

Tried some searching but probably not using correct terms so will give a detailed description of what's happening.

Got oil and primary changed last week before big trip at my selling dealer using synthetics all around. Took off and went about 2400 miles without issue. Today had problem shifting to second. It would stop in neutral and I should have to reingage the clutch and put a little more pressure on heel of heel/toe shifter and it would shift. All upper gears would change with normal pressure. Downshifting was no problem.

On the way back issue became greater and could barely get into second. Removed heel and moved it 1 or 2 teeth higher. Perfect. So proud of myself. Well, you know the old saying, "pride before the fall". Got in interstate and shifted fine up to 6th gear. Needed to exit for gas and dilemma began.

Stuck on the road after exiting interstate and could not down shift at all. Shifter is totally "free wheeling". Had my corider come and by pulling the shifter outward, he could get it to catch and got it all the way to first. Had him move to third and feathered the clutch to get to motel. Looked underneath and no damage or leaking I could see or other damage. Thought the shifter shaft may have broken, but won't pull off. Just totally free. Linkage works.

Any ideas? Hopefully I can find a dealership that can get me in and back on the road as vacation is over and need to get back to work. It is a 2014 Ultra Limited with @16k miles.

Thanks

Pop the top cover on the transmission and get the rear wheel in the air so you can spin it and shift manually through the gears. If you can get it to bind grab the shift forks and give them a wiggle. Each one should have a little play if any of them bind they could be bent and there is your problem child.

Look at the splines on the shifter lever and shaft. Sounds like they're stripped.

Sleazy, that's exactly what it was. Dealer said they had changed 2 more last week on 2014's. He told me the part was being reworked as it is now a known issue.

Thanks guys

For me the dealer recommended Red Line transmission oil in the tranny. I also believe that the clutch adjustment is critical. For now I'd just ride it and get it broke in and see if that helps.

Good luck.

A 6 year old post resurrected, I hope the OP has gotten it worked out by now. Suggest you post here on your choice of transmission oil as I expect many would be interested:
