Hope I can make this make sense. I just purchased a 2002 Electric Glide with a Screamin Eagle 6 speed transmission. When I'm in 3rd, 4th, and 6th gear there is a whinning sound, especially in 6th gear. 6th gear is especially loud. I can't tell if it's actually comming from the trans or in the primary area. Sense it only does it in these three gears I kind of assumed that it may be the trans. After reading some of the other postings I'm now wondering if it may be the primary. Anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas?

 

The screaming eagle 6 is all straight cut gearing. They are going to be noisy by nature. If someone put the wrong gear lube in it it could make it more noisy.

Verify the correct lube. See if it can take the synthetic. Change the fluid and see if that helps.

When you drain the fluid run a magnet through it and see if any metal flakes are caught.
