I have a strange chirping noise coming from my bike. When I let off the throttle and coast, or let the clutch outafter downshifting, it chirps once. It sounds like it's coming from the primary, but it's hard to tell while I'm riding exactly where it's coming from.
Just had same problem. Adjusted belt tension to spec cold with rider weight on bike. Torque axel nut and you should be in business. Gotta love the manual.
I had a chirping noise like you described. Wound up being that the nut had backed off that secures the pulley to trans.
This is actually more common on the EVO and previous engines for some reason. Bikes with 50+ thousand miles......it just seems to happen. Usually, the pulley has to be replaced due to the inner splines being smooth and the pulley rubbing against the inner primary. It is very uncommon on Twin Cams, but worth considering though.
Check your motor mounts as well. In time, they can crumble, deterioate, rot, and chunks can be missing. Any of those conditions can cause your bike to chirp. The mount can also be dry.....which can cause a chirp.
