Default Oil leaking 4-speed gearbox

Hy you all!!
I'm new to this great forum and tought I drop in my first question:

Do you have any tips on an oil leeking 1979 4-speed gearbox?

It is leaking out of the mainshaft, the old known problem to the 4-speed...[:'(]
I have tried several things, even a compleet overhaul! Nothing seems to work.
Last timeI have the4th gear modified to take a double seal and installed a new bushing, all other seals and o-rings changed, used a new locknut and used liquid seal on the front chainwheel.

In a year or two I can bore oil from my shed, but I wasn't planning to do that...

I hope you understand my English[sm=thanx.gif]

Thanks in advance!!

If you are using synthetic oil take it out and put good old dinosaur oil in.

Go you you local Bike Shop and get something called a Super Nut,I believe it's made by James Gaskets.
It's new mainshaft nut with a seal built into it. If they don't know what it is go somewhere else.

What extech said. The super nut is what I used on my 79 FXS

Pete,

As I said before, only a Supernut won't help.
I already have it in the bike.
Yesterday I heard someone say Harley has a new sortseal for the mainshaft.

I think I need a new mainshaft, and change the 4th gear to needle bearings from an Evo instead of the bushings.
It's a nice project for my sparetime!!

Grtz,

Rockin' Kees

Edit: If I need a new mainshaft what is the best thing to buy: an item from Jims or Andrews or
Zodiac (Thaiwan??)
Jims cost twice as much as Zodiac....
So, let's hear you!!
