other than the cost for the quart, why not just use what's recommended and not re-invent the wheel?

And yes, the ATF is $1.98 a qt, but do you really think I care what it costs with what I have already invested in by bike???

Using that rational,I wouldn't have built the engine either. And everybody would run HD engine oils. The Dexron II ATF is recommended by the clutch manufacturer - Rivera-Primo who has been buildinghigh performance clutches as long as I have been riding. There is always something new, better, different, and sometimes it actually works better.

RE: ATF fluid in primary???
WHY
Just run HD F+ or plain old motor oil not SNY.
Sny have molly additives in it not good for the clutch.
In the primary you could almost get away with peanut oil it not that big a deal.
If you want to worry about siome thing Tranmission and engine now theres were you can get some bang for your buck running good lubes.

I just changed mine and added Rotella T syn. I've used it in my metric, wet clutch, engines for years and the added detergents should keep the moving parts clean.
When the guy bought my 1100 with 80,000 the compression test was perfect and still had the original clutch.

RE: ATF fluid in primary???
I use Redline MTL in my primary. MTL is a 70w80 synthetic manual transmission lubricant that has no moly and has a pour point like a 5w30 motor oil so you get little or no clutch drag when its cold. It's just a tad bit thicker than ATF so it provides excellent lubrication to the bearings & other drive components. Redline has been specifying this lube for HD primary applications for almost 20 years with good results. I really like it as I get excellent clutch feel.
