You might not need a new compensator spring pack. You might just need to re-torque the compensator nut. I have been dealing with compensator problems...my compensator nut backed off, lost its torque, which caused some problems. My nut lost so much of its torque I could unscrew it with just my fingers. My bike is a 04 Heritage...not sure how different my comp is to yours.

If our comps operate in the same way, then I'd say try and unscrew the nut holding your comp to the crank. If you can do it with anything other than a breaker bar, it's not torqued down correctly. Also, if it is loose, it’s a good time to pull the assembly out, take a look at all of the metal, especially the crank grooves and anything that fills those groves (comp, sprocket, rotor) for damage.

Yeah and don't forget to put some red loctite on it when you reassemble.

There is a stamped steel cup inside that year compensator. It is probally worn. The outer edge of the cup makes contact with the spring pack and the inner edge makes contact with the extension shaft. It usually wears where it makes contact with the extension shaft. Probally worn to half its original thickness. Replace the cup and torque to specs.
