2006 Dyna Primary Bearing Failure
The primary bearing went out on my 2006 super glide on 7/22 in route to utah. Being stranded in hays, kansas waiting for the dealer to open ruined my vacation. The bike had 8000 miles on it. I only noticed the noise about 25 miles prior to stopping in hays. The replacement was the same as the bad one, part# 34091-06. I was told by the service guy they had received a tech bulletin on the issue and would probably have to replace it again somewhere down the road since HD has no fix for the older 2006 models. This is totally unacceptable. I can't even rely on the bike to go anywhere without worrying about it breaking down. Hats off to the guys at Doerflers' Harley Davidson though. They promptly took my bike in after opening, threw it up on the rack and went right to work on it. Three hours and $287.50 later I was back on the road heading home. And yes the warranty had expired in april 08.

RE: 2006 Dyna Primary Bearing Failure
Welcome to the 06 Dyna Primary Bearing Failure Club

Mine went at 10,000 miles.

As you say, the inner race is part# 34091-06 with a 9231 roller and this is the same as the 07's. Do these fail I wonder?? 08's have part# 34091-08 with a different mainshaft.
 \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
Full marks to your dealer for admitting that there is a problem and I'd love to see the tech bulletin. \\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\;
 \\;\\\\\\;
As you probably know, the MoCo were going to routinely change this bearing at 15,000 miles but then decided not to!! If only they lasted that long!!
 \\;
Did your dealer say WHY they are failing. (BTW there are many threads on this)

RE: 2006 Dyna Primary Bearing Failure
No they didn't say why it was failing. They did speculate it might have something to do with the primary chain tensioner though. I think I will contact them and see iIf they will provide me with a copy of the tech bulletin. I doubt it will happen but it's worth a try.

My thread is gone, inner primary problem on 06 FXDI
Howdy Folks,
In the interest of not typing the whole saga over, I'm posting a link to the final solution to this problem. Please go to:
http://www.westcoastbikers(dot)com/f...html#post26488
(dot) with a . as the site doesn't like links and the above link will not work until you cut and past it to a browser and do the replacement. No offense to the owner, the link is to a non competitive site.
I respectfully disagree with the recommendation to replace the bearings only, it will not be a fix.
Best to all,
Pixs
