Default Four speed kickstart

1984 FXST Evo with 4 speed electric/kick start.
Is the kickstart shaft/gear independent of the electric start? I'd like to remove the kickstart shaft if possible. I haven't popped the cover yet to see what all interacts with this system. Does anyone know if I can remove it without a huge headache?

Just get a non-kickstart cover and new gasket and replace it. Take off the kick start cover and gear. Thats about it.

Thanks. I'll go on the search for a four speed non-kickstart.

You could also make a dummy aluminum plug to fit in place of the shaft. Somebody may even sell these.

I sent you an email asking for your address. Have a friend that has owned a bike the same as yours since new. I'll try to hook you up with him.
