ULTIMA 6 speed trans failure........
has anyone else here had a problem with a ultima six speed OD trans going bad, this one started whining very badly in 4th and 6th, so we removed, inspected it and found nothing, reinstalled it with all new H-D bearings and new *** door bearing, started riding it and it sounded better than before till about 250 miles later and it happened again, the first 2000 plus miles there was no problems what so ever, anyone else have this problem, also has anyone had any problems with the revtec 6sp OD trans ???????????

They do have a very reasonable price tag...say less than around 1/2 the cost of a Baker. Maybe we get what we pay for. I don't trust any of them anyway....I have been burned buy one that cost a he!! of a lot more than $800.
Put your 5-speed back in if it will still fit, and change your gearing to suit your taste.

I can't tell from the picture exactly what you have there, but you should be able to get a good used 5-speed case-n-all for $400-$500 and just change it all for less than the cost of even a new cheap 6-speed gear set. You will avoid all the cost of pressing things in and out of your old case. You just have to be sure you get the right tranny to match your inner. May have to adjust some brackets and things for exhaust attachments, etc. and you will have 1-less gear to brag about, but one less to fail too. The primary guts and the clutch lifting components should just change over. Transmissions are all over e-bay for a song-and-a-dance. You can change your pulleys to re-gear if you need to.
I ripped-out a $2,800 6-speed gear-set and replaced mine with a 5-speed case-n-all for around $400. I never used any special tools or hauled it to a shop to pay anybody to press anything on, in, or out.

I don't see how an open primary (belt drive) is going to solve a transmission problem. All I ever had from a belt drive primary was trouble. If you just putt around town or take short trips, a belt drive is very smooth, but no good for touring. Harley tried to make a belt drive primary work, but never could. Gates could not build a belt that would hold up under the heat. I don't see how this is going to help a transmission problem at all.
