Default Primary Tensioner Retaining Ring Failing

The retaining ring that holds the primary chain tensioner shoe in place keeps coming off while riding.

Looks like the chain tensioner piece is worn down, but the new ones don't look much better than my used one. The lip on the tensioner doesn't seem sufficient enough to retain the ring.

Don't really want to JB weld the thing but thinking of cutting a groove in it and wrapping some wire around it.... must be a better way.... Any ideas?
