Default Primary Chain Stretch

Has anyone ever encountered a stretched primary chain on a 05 softail? My chain will not stay tensioned even with a new automatic tensioner. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Default Experience

My experience is it really does not stretch but it will wear unevenly due to the slight wear in the pin bores. Mine was abused due to misalignment.(see my album) . I did my best to measure it since Harley only say if you run out of manual adjustment replace chain and sprockets. I stretched it over large and small sprocket and measured across at different locations. Also gave it the old twist method (seemed OK). Stretched and measured between the same number of rollers at different locations. (all fairly close as best I could measure with dial caliper and outside micrometers) However when I put all back together I still have enough run out between loose and tight that it uses up the whole tolerance of my manual adjustment between loose and tight. I still have a lot of adjustment to go. Here lately since I still have a lot of noise is maybe I have a inner primary bearing going out that is some of the run out. I could not detect any sprocket shake when I had it all apart. Not totally clear how auto adjuster works but I do not believe you chain is stretch problem. My problem took 30K of abuse to produce. Do not think I could even use auto adjuster now. Have 40K on bike now. How many miles do you have and when did you put auto adjuster on? Did you bike come with auto adjuster?

i have about 24k miles on it and it seems to be ok for a while but then starts to klank and i have no more adjustment on it. The chain seem too loose and has play around each sprocket. I may try a new chain I have to see if that works.
