Hi,
Two questions.about my 2009 FXD
1. My clutch pack adjustment nut has been tightened such that I can not get it to loosen. The clutch pack starts to spin before the nut breaks loose. Any suggestions? I put it in gear put that did not help. I almost forgot to mention that I am doing this on my sears red lift so that the bike is upright.

2. The last time I changed my fluids I held the bike upright. I have noticed that the fluid behind the derby plate looks lower than usual. Because I held the bike upright during the fluid change, is it possible that I removed more fluid than the 32oz that is recommended at the change? Follow up question, is the fluid supposed to come up to the bottome lip of the opening?

Sorry I guess I really had more than two questions. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

the trick is to hold the rear brake with the transmission in top gear. If you don't have a helper to hold the brake, then use a strap to bind the pedal down while you loosen the nut. Primary level should be at the bottom of the pressure plate. If you fill it to the bottom of the opening, you'll drown the clutch and it won't release properly. A little bit low is not an issue, I've seen people run as little as 8 ounces of primary fluid with no problems, as long as the ring gear dips into the oil and flings it around, you're good.

Question getting into neutral question

I have a question on my 99 Fatboy getting it into neutral when in gear or running I should say. Do you think the clutch needs to be adjusted only about 10k on the bike if I turn it off I get neutral easy.
thanks for any help.

2006 Softail Standard FXSTI. Any help would be appreciated. While attempting to adjust the clutch, somehow I ended up with about an inch of extra cable. With the clutch lever all the way against the bar and the adjuster on the cable sleeve full extended I still have extra cable. How did I screw this up so badly? I’ve done this procedure before with no problems.

Never mind. Problem solved. A little cable lube took care of it.

How can you tell if it needs to be adjusted this way rather than at the cable?

You don't know. There are two adjustments to the clutch system, and they both operate in the middle of their operating range. The idea is that by adjusting them, you make sure that neither one reaches the limit of it's operating range causing a problem. You have to do them both to be sure both are correct.
