Default Shifter Pawl Spring

I recently had the mainshaft break on the transmission. Mike bike has 105,000 miles on it. I bought a low (as far as I know) gear set on ebay and got all the gaskets and seals to put it back together from the local HD shop.

After hearing the horror stories, I wanted to replace was the shifter pawl spring. They were supposed to have one in stock, but when they went to pull it, it wasn't there.

I would like to get the bike back together this weekend. What do you think my chances are this will last??? How often do they really break?

Baker makes an "anti overshift" shifter pawl the is supposed to be indestructable. I know you were just planning to replace the spring but thought you might want to look at the Baker unit.

With 105,000 miles, I would change the spring. Also change the small one on the pawl. Buy extra circlips...

From what I understand, it is the small one on the pawl that tends to break. I will have one here on Monday. I guess I will do as much as I can until I get it.

Replace both springs. The big spring is the one that has caused the most problems.
