Default Old style 5 speed to ball and ramp?

Does anyone know if it is possible to change an early (86) softail transmission from the top lever to the newer ball and ramp? How much was involved?
The trapdoor is different (?) 35077-86a vs. 35077-87 and obviously the outer cover.
I'm trying to install a newer factory painted tin set and the top lever hits the tank nipples.
Thanks in advance!

You need a trap door for 1987 or later, plus the outer cover and ball and ramp parts.

In order to change the trap door, you must remove the gearset from the transmission case (the transmission can stay in the frame).

Remove the shafts from the old trap door, then install the shafts into the new trap door, using new trap door bearings.

THANK YOU!!!!
My experience with 5 speeds is somewhat limited, went from 4 to 6 speeds.
LOL, I just got done red loctiteing the belt drives and putting fresh oil in the transmission!
One step forward, two steps back!
THANK YOU AGAIN!

5 speed is a very straightforward unit, easy to work on.
