Whining 4th gear Road King 2006
First of all a big hello to everyone from Holland.
I bought my RK '06 6 months ago with 5000 miles on it.
Unused condition (or close to it).
From the first day the 4th gear makes a high pitched whining noise, not very loud but very clearly audible. It varies with the speed so: faster means higher pitched noise.
The dealer serviced it at 10000 miles, and they put an additive into the new transmission oil.
After the service (including the additive) it changes gears infinitely easier just as if there were no gears in it, but the noise stayed. Not better, not worse, the same. The dealer says it will work after more miles but??? I do not know.
Does this sound familiar to anyone, what is the cause, and what could be the cure?
Many thanks in advance.

Forth was known for being noisy in earlier models but not in 06. In 06 those were high contact gears. Drain transmission and fill it with .680 liters of Redline 75w250 full synthetic shock proof gear lube and see what happens. If that does not quiet it down you are left with 2 choices: replace forth gear or get louder pipes.

When I first bought my 06 used it had dino oil in it and no whine. Changed oil and I had the whine in my 06 ultra using Spectro 75W 140 synthetic trans fluid. Changed to another brand of oil 75w90 full synthetic and do not notice the whine at all now. Could be just the type of oil you are using.
