Default Clutch cable loose after changing stator

Hey Guys, I have a '03 Heritage and I just replaced the stator. During the process I removed the clutch pack. I never touched the clutch cable during the job but after reassembly the clutch cable is extremely loose. I can't even start the bike up because the cable is so loose I have no idea what gear I'm in. In fact there's so much slack in the cable that I can't pull it back to change gears anyways. How did this happen and how can I fix it?

Default loose clutch after stator replacement

I suspect the clutch throwout pushrod slipped out of the mainshaft at some point and is missing. Look around on the floor for a long thin rod with rounded ends, maybe 8 inches or so long.

The rod was in there, I checked. But adjusting the clutch has only removed SOME of the slack from the cable. I also tried adjusting the in-line cable up near the front of the frame but all that really did was increase and decrease resistance. All the pieces seem to be in place but the clutch just isn't doing anything.

Somebody pulled the clutch lever while the clutch pack was out of the primary and flipped the cam in the actuation cover on the RIGHT side of the bike.

(That's the 3 ball ramp that pushes the clutch rod toward the clutch pack.)

Why don't you just adust the clutch?

I always adjsut it when I have the primary off. But regardless if tension is off, adjust.

I don't think that is the issue. Already tried..
Either the push rod came out of the shaft( I don't remember that) or is back inside..it was supposed to be a simple clutch job.. but it is never simple..

Is it normal that when I tried torquing the 5 bolts that hold the pressure plate on the clutch basket.. the basket turns to the point I can't even torque the bolts to spec.?
