I just bought a 2004 fat boy for my wife and it has a screamin eagle 6 speed most of the noise is in 4th & 6th and gone in 5th. I rebuild transmissions for a living on cars.5th gear must be 1 to 1 and the gears are straight cut.Is it normal to get a lot of gear noise from these transmissions.thanks

 

Yes 4th and 6th are always noisier than the rest of the gears it's really unavoidable.

 

Thanks mark thats what i thought its light a M22 over a M21. I was not sure because it had a light wt. motor oil in it and was just a little low but not much i was going to go in it this winter now maybe i won't Thanks a lot

 

Don't use motor oil it has very low amounts of zinc and phosphorus. Motor oils also have detergents which you don't need because nothing burns in a transmission. Use a GL-5 rated gear lube and ride on.
