for some reason when i went out on the Fat bob this morning I just couldn't get into any gear higher than 2nd There didnt seem to be any problem in 1st, 2nd or getting into neutral. The gear link rod to the forward control looks fine and the shift lever isn't slipping - any ideas what could be wron - it's a newish bike just over 5000miles n less than a year old

 

Possible loose bolt on the detent arm. If the detent comes loose then the roller contacts the shift drum on a weird angle. When you say forward controls are they after market?
