Default Shift lever shaft - '04 Twin Cam Bagger

I need to change my shift lever shaft. I removed my heel and toe shifters and the shift rod on the opposite end of the shift rod lever. I know there is a bushing in the primary case that the shift lever passes thru.Without seeming stupid , i cannot seem to pull the shift rod lever out. Is the bushing or some kind of keeper that is not letting me pull it out? I always like to do as much on my bike as possible , and this looked easy til now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a pinch bolt on the inboard belcrank that you have to remove.

Probably due to a lack of proper greasing it is stuck in there so to speak. There are bushings inside, 2, one on each end. Try taking a mallet and tapping it in instead of trying to pull it out. Once tapped in it should be able to pull out.
