Default New clutch cable always = have to adjust clutch?

Need experienced opinion.
My son calls and he installed new clutch cable (for 16 inch apes) to his stock 09 SG.
Clutch adjustment "right on" with previous cable- he now says clutch won't fully disengage even though he has taken slack out of new cable. Is this simply need for a clutch adjust....with new cable or is something else possibly going south here? Says the new cable end install to tranny cover and linkage went well. Thoughts?
Thanks.....

Can't hurt starting with a clutch adjustment.

loosen the cable adjustment all the way, re adjust clutch, then adjust cable to spec and try it if still no engagment perhaps the cable is not hooked up in the side cover or the ball/ramp thingy i nthe side cover is not functioning properly

Is there any such thing as a cheap cable that stretches?
Gonna look his bike over tomorrow.
Thanks -

Thanks All,
Turned out to be a matter of having some patience and working the clutch adjust and finishing with the cable adjust. We did the sequence a couple times I suppose due to new long cable stretch.
I'm a little old for 16"s on a SG but they do grow on you!
Ride On.
