Default Down shift into 4th not performing properly

I own a 99 sportster 883

When I down shift into fourth consistently I get stuck between gears and hears the tumbling and grinding. To get it to upshift or down shift from this point takes a little more effort with a (not Good) sounding clunk. This is my first bike and don't know how this bike is supposed to properly shift. It does seem as though the shifts are hard.Clutch is adjusted, just performed this last week. Also I have a problem, appears to be in a pulley or something. When I accelerate or decelerate there is some play. When bike is not running and in gear I can rock the bike back and forth a tad.Sometimes when I accelerate I can hear a clicking ,as if something is free-spinning then catching from around tranny area.

HHHeelllllppppppp.
