I have a 1984 sporty with 7000 miles on it, it sat in a garage for 12 years and I got it up and running a few months ago. All of a sudden Im having problems down shiting especially 2nd and first gear and can almost never find neutral unless the motor is off. it is also hard to shift up untill I get third and fourth gear.I pulled the clutch out and it is PERFECT! Im wondering what I might be looking for when I pull the trans?

 

Odds are a simple clutch adjustment is all you need.

Do you have the service manual for your ride?

 

I second this, if you can find neutral with the bike off I am 99.9% positive that it is a clutch related issue.

 

Welcome to HDF from the UK. The others are quite right, first step is to adjust your clutch by the book. Get the factory service manual for your model, not one of the cheap alternatives.
