Just had bike in shop for new tires and brakes. Left on Wednesday and all well. Friday, no problems. Saturday, 2 up, 300 miles and on way home, hit a bump, small noise like something loose. Today after 150 miles, hitting bump sounds like swing arm coming off and can feel it in footboards. Get home and looking it over, drive belt right as a banjo string. This on an 01 Ultra. Why would the belt get that tight that fast? This is the old style adjuster instead of the can style and all the bolts seem tight. Going to loosen it up tomorrow and can't see my Indy til Tuesday as he's closed on Monday's.

 

Same thing happened to me after a rear tire change at the dealer. Belt was way too tight but didn't notice for almost a week but by then the damage was done. Wore out the inner primary bearing and caused the output shaft to warp.

 

I put 500 miles on it Saturday and Sunday, but didn't notice it til late Saturday evening and really notice it Sunday about 30 miles from home so hoping no real damage done. Picking up parts today from stealer to get it done, then going by the Indy's tomorrow that did the install to see if he knows why it tightened so quick. Was good when I left his place Wednesday.
