Default Question for you wrenches out there

Ok so I did a primary and trans fluid change today on my 96 inch twin cam. When reinstalling the drain plug on the transmission I used my torque wrench as always (and I'm bullshitting about this, I always use my torque wrenches). I set the wrench to 18 lbs and turned. The plug got tight just to the point I thought it would click then it got loose and just spun. Oh **** I just stripped the case I thought. I pulled the plug out and found half moon shaped metal thread shavings on the plug. I tried again with a regular socket socket wrench and it just spun inside the case. I'm sure my shitty craftsman torque Wrench broke and I over tightened it. I then took the primary drain plug and tried and it tighted up just fine with my buddies torque wrench to 18 lbs no problem. I them installed the transmission plug into primary and that tighted just fine. My question is, what in the hell just happened? Did I just strip the case on the tranny? Did I switch the plugs around to begin with (all three plugs should be interchangeable? Or is it possible that by using the other plug that wasn't stressed from overnighting to begin with was enough to kind of retap the trans case hole. Any ideas. Should I be worried or am I just paranoid. Oh yeah and just to mention I do have a manual and I use it.

I would say the case is stripped.

The other plug may have been a little larger making it seem to tighten.

If that's the case. What should I do. Is it ok to leave it like it is for a while.

If it's not leaking, leave it for now.

If you do a search here, you will find a lot of threads on oversize drain plugs,etc-.
