Pre-2006 Clutch Pull

Pre-2006 Clutch Pull
Wanting a reduced effort clutch on my '98 Road King Classic, and having the dealer tell me the reduced effort clutch kit won't fit on pre-2006 models, I bought the ramps and and new clutch cable and tried it anyway.
Parts :
Outer Ramp : 25605-00A
Inner Ramp : 25604-00A
Installed with a new standard OEM clutch cable.
Adjusted the clutch pack according to the thread here on adjusting the clutch the easy way. Adjusted the cable. The ramps were something like $12 each and the cable was $62.
Significantly reduced clutch effort.

If those parts fit a `98, then they should fit 1987-2006 as far as 5 speeds go (all the transmissions with ball and ramp systems).
The book probably told the guy what it would fit. This stuff happens in the aftermarket too, where a catalog may say a part only fits certain years, even though it will actually fit many more model year bikes.
Good info unclecurt.

Also, it was time to replace the clutch pack so I installed Barnett kevlar friction plates (302-30-10013K) using the original steel plates with 65K, they were fine.
I re-used the stock clutch diaphragm spring thinking if I wanted to lighten the pull further I could do that as an additional step. Not necessary in my case as the reduction in effort from the new ramps and improved clutch cable did the job.
