Default Baker Frankentranny kick start

Hi all, new to this forum and after some advice,
Fitted to the bike is a Baker Frankentranny gearbox, the kick start engages when the gearbox is in gear, but when in neutral the kick start has no resistance and doesn't turn over the engine.............???
What could it be............??? Cheers

Remove the arm and peddle and wind the kicker spring one more flat.

The large coil spring on your kicker cover is wrapped around the kicker shaft. The kicker shaft has four flat sides these are known as flats. Wind the spring tighter so it catches the next flat.

This should help.

Do you see the slot in the kicker shaft, the shaft needs to be re-positioned so that the slot is turned one more "flat" or another 45 degrees so that the spring can be wound tighter. It may be necessary to turn it 2 flats or 90 degrees to accomplish this. If you still need help give us a call. 1-877-640-2004

Mark, thanks for your help but the kicker shaft only has 1 slot in it and the spring will not allow a full 360 degree turn.......???

I find it very strange that the ratchet is working inside the gearbox but not driving the drive belt to the engine.

If you can think of anything else to try i would apprichate it, i think i may end up calling you if thats ok but it will be a last result as calling from England will cost me a fortune.........

Cheers

You will have to pull the cover off and remove the nut and spacer on the kicker shaft and spin the shaft one more flat so that the slot is 45 degrees from where it was. Re-install the washer on nut then rewind the spring.

Or... if you have a vice you can clamp the cover in a vice and leave the spring attached and remove the nut and spacer rotate the kicker arm on more flat then re-install the spacer and nut. Then remove the kicker arm and re-position it so it is straight up and down again. This method works best if you have a friend that can hold the arm for you while you are tightening the nut.
