Angry Chain Case Overfill Issues, maybe???

I've got a clutch problem that comes and goes. I've checked the hyd fluid level in the clutch reservoir and it's full. The clutch grabs and won't disengage at the MOST inopportune times. I have trouble finding neutral, too. Does a chain case with too much oil in it cause this? Am I chasing ghosts or what? How do I know what too much is? Do I drain it and start over?

You have a hydraulic clutch on your 08 ultra? An overfilled primary can cause issues. Should only take 38oz wet. As well, what do run for fluid in your tranny? I would adjust the clutch, put in proper amount of primary fluid and a good gear oil in tranny and see how that goes.

It is not a chain case it is a primary. The easest way is drin it and fill it with proper amount the wet fill not dry fill. Dry fills are for when it is taken a part.
If you want to check it by looking at it with derby cover off bike straight up look at the bottom edge of the clutch basket lube should be just covering the the edge a bit.
Over fill will make it hard to find N.
Adjust the clutch correctly also no short cuts do it step by step.

I must respectfully disagree. The inner and outer primary covers certainly are a chain case. Some factory parts books even call them the Chain Case Housing in the index.

OP, set the lube level as Smitty says, don`t worry about how much the chain case holds (I had to say that), just set it at that level and you will be good. It won`t hurt anything if it is even a bit lower than that, as the ring gear will sling the lube all over in there.

On the new frame I have found that if the bike is on flat ground ,with stock size tires and stock jiffy stand leaned over on the jiffy stand. The primary lube will be at the correct level when it is just below running out of the derby cover. When you stand it up straight it will be at the factory level. I experimented with this a few times it has work perfectly.
I never tried it with other years

Jolly right too, old chap! Introduced as the 'little oil bath chain case' by Sunbeam on their bicycles in 1897 and later on their motorcycles, front and rear, then adopted by the motorcycle industry throughout the World.
