Default son's 883 sporster

Hello
Got a question regarding my sons 2006 sportty 883. Won't start but has juice and battry showing 12vdc and headlight works. When I try to crank it we get a clanking noise. On my old 74 inch I know the bendix starter would engage clutch ring and turn the bike over. This sportty start the same way? And if so does it sound like the starter is toast?

Thanks

David

check your battery with a volt meter, 12V is not good. also check both ends of all the wires coming to and from starter/solenoid and battery, make sure they are all clean and tght

Thanks. I'll check the connections and voltage.

Sounds like a weak starter clutch, which engages the bendix, which meshes to the ring gear.

I was thinking along those lines but not sure if these 883s have a bendix starter. Any way I took the bike to a shop for my son. Thanks.
