Default Clutch adjustment

Bike is an 09 Dyna. Just finished rebuilding the motor. Also installed a new clutch cable, a Barnett clutch spring, and a Burly EZ clutch kit to attempt to balance out the heavier spring. I adjusted the pushrod at the clutch and the clutch cable according to the service manual and a YouTube vid. I double checked it by putting the bike in gear and pulling the lever back. I can physically see the clutch moving (I have the primary cover off) but I can't roll the bike in gear with the clutch released. I tried tightening the cable but that didn't help. Any suggestions?

Double check that your retaining ring for the release plate is seated properly in the groove.

By release plate you mean the plate with the ramps for the 3 *****? I'm pretty sure I had everything set correctly and I'm sure the snap ring was seated properly.

The clutch cable, the pressure spring, and the adjustment part were simple enough that I'm thinking the problem has to be under the exhaust side cover. I can see the clutch moving when I squeeze the lever, and it feels fairly smooth.

There is a great deal of drag with the bike in first gear. This is the reason that when cycling the pistons by hand turning the rear wheel, high gear is selected (with plugs removed).

That might be the case. The more I think about it maybe just the clutch plates are sticky from sitting and rolling the bike in 1st just isn't overcoming the friction of the clutch even when disengaged. The bike hasn't been ran since November.

No the release plate that the adjuster screw goes in.
