Default Primary noise 96 Springer-help please!

Just got done installing a new drive belt. Everything in the primary looked good. Put it all back together and have growling noise coming from front of primary when idling and then kind of a clunk when I hit the kill swich. Is the chain too tight? Took it back apart and only I can see is the coverfor the compensator nut looks like it may have been dropped. Ver y small dent on lip. This prevents you from being able to pull out the 3 big washers straight out. You have to tip them to get them out. Is this normal? That is all I can see wrong. The rotor looks good-no busted magnets. Pease help me I would like to get this fixed for the weekend. Have not got a chance to really even ride this year yet. ~250 miles

I think one of those big washer/spacers was flipped the wrong way. They are all dished one way. Could this be it? Otherwise I don't have a clue why I am getting this noise.

No one has any experience in this? I am new to wrenching on Harleys...not new to riding them though. Been wrenching on other things for the last 20 years.

I had a similiar sound on my 91 Softtail when the clutch cable was adjusted too tight
readjusted it a bit looser and the noise went away
