Default Primary Cover heat situation?

A friend and I just changed the drive belt on my 02 Ultra. The first couple of rides I was just listening and feeling if we got it all back together properly. It seems we did (RFaithM) . Then I had to place the dust cover on the foot board and noticed the primary cover was really warm. I have never even been concerned about heat on the primary cover but it seems its time to learn something new.

I rode for about 10 miles with a friend to his house and we checked the difference in the heat of the two bikes. There was probably 40* difference in the two primary covers. His 08 was so hot you couldn't leave your hand on it or it would burn it.
He has a 08 Ultra and I have an 02 Ultra.

I used Royal Purple in my case on the O2 Ultra
He uses AMS oil in his case on the 08 Ultra

I have true duals on the 02 and he has stock pipes with rush slip on's on his 08.

Why the difference in heat and how much heat should be there?

Thank you for your assistance!
As always Ride Safe and Stand Tall!

Preacherman, I cannot believe someone with a lot of knowledge on Heat Differences has not responded to the question. Keep the faith brother, someone will chime in. Later-

Red Ryder
Maybe they all live in the Artic and don't ever think of it eh?!
Maybe their bikes are so kool that they blow ice shavings!!!

Ride Safe everyone!

Does the 08 have catalytic converters? New bikes do run hotter thanks to the EPA.
