Have you had your 10k service done yet? If not, I would tell your dealer when you do. Your cable when adjusted properly should have a dimes width (thickness) of play up by where the cable meets the clutch lever on your handle bar.

Was the hard lever pull hard before you adjusted it? Describe what you read in the manual and then the exact order you carried it out on the bike for clutch adjustment.

Guess you need to review that process. I know it's in the service manual to lube the cables, but it really has not been really necessary in a long time. The cables slides in a teflon/nylon sheath surrounded by the outer case. My 04 cables have never been lubed and are fine at 42K. When you accessed the cable at the lever to lube, did you get the nylon sleeve back in correctly? You still did not say how you adjusted it clutch so I can under stand what you mean by too much play in the cable. You only need about 1/16" of play, and this probably has nothing to do with a hard to pull lever. Did you adjust the free play at the clutch behind the derby cover first?

What did you do to lube it? There may be some small detail of how you lubed it that has caused this.
