Default Jackshaft help

Removed my primary to replace the shifter lever on my '95 electraglide, when i went to start the starter engages but does not contact the clutch gear.the starter bushing has an internal snap ring offset inside it,i believe i may have reversed the bushing when i installed it.does anyone know if the snap ring goes towards the outside (case cover)or towards the starter?

If it's not engaging the way it is now, reverse the bushing and it should work.

FYI. Whenever I remove the primary, I always make sure the starter engages (I don't start the bike, just turn it over), before I bolt everything back up.
