Trans issues when downshifting.

Trans issues when downshifting.
I have a 2008 night train. 96B, six speed. I was downshifting to make a turn tonight and when down shifting into first the trans "hit" it sounded more like a slam and I could feel it in what I felt to be the primary case.
I down shifted and reved the engine very minimally and that's when the loud clunk happens. I'm going to buy a service manual here shortly and then start poking around but I was wondering if anyone else had any ideas as to what they think it could be. It's only done this when downshifting to first so far and it's doing it when I still have the clutch pulled in.
Thanks in advance everyone for your time in reading this post and any input anyone may have.

It may be that the engine revs are not synchronised. The drop to first from second is bigger than the other ratio changes, so you need to raise engine speed more. Keep riding and see if you are able to time things right. If concerned or it persists, find a local dealer or indy, so they can check your bike for you.
